Finance Officer

HOVIC (Hope for Victoria Children) is a local non-governmental organization established in 2003 as a self-help group and registered as an NGO in 2008.

Its establishment was necessitated by the evident gap in responding to the plight of vulnerable children in Kenya. HOVIC programs focus on the Western Kenya region but support children from all parts of the Country.

HOVIC exists to empower vulnerable children and young people living and depending on the streets and girls in the hidden sector and their communities.

HOVIC deliver this by providing dignified livelihoods that include; shelter and care, education, health, food and nutrition, child protection, psychosocial support, trainings, apprenticeship and economic empowerment of vulnerable children and households.

HOVIC is looking for professionally confident, self-motivated, experienced and committed team player to fill this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner using reporting materials for all donor segments, and oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting.
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the Board of Trustees in selection process and assess any changes necessary.
  • Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the program staff, administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status.
  • Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices; improve the finance department’s overall policy and procedure manual.
  • Effectively communicate and present the critical financial matters and management reports to the Board of Trustees.

Human Resources and Administration

  • Coordinate, maintain and review all functions and systems related to HR management in the organization (leave, payroll, medical payments, staff loans, recruitment, employee files, job description, and staff appraisals).
  • Oversee and coordinate all procurement activities within the organization.
  • Oversee administrative functions as well as facilities to ensure efficient and consistent operations.
  • Working closely with the business wing of the organization to develop financial plans and analyze opportunities for organizational social enterprise ventures
  • Assist in Preparation of donor budgets for proposals in collaboration with the Resource Mobilization team.
  • Any other tasks assigned by your supervisor.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Professional qualifications in CPA III
  • Proficient in computerized accounting.
  • At least 2 years’ experience preferably in NGO Accounting and grants management.
  • Knowledge of USAID financial and administrative rules and regulations.
  • High level of integrity, values, ethics.
  • Strong analytical and administrative skills.
  • Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
