AGRA is focused on putting smallholder farmers at the center of the continent’s growing economy by transforming agriculture from a solitary struggle to survive into farming as a business that thrives.
To support this transformation from a country perspective, AGRA is seeking to recruit an experienced and exceptional individual to the position of Senior Human Resources Officer.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director Human Resources, the Senior Human Resource Officer will be responsible for HR alignment, talent acquisition (sourcing, attracting, interviewing and on-boarding) talent development, succession planning, performance management, organizational development and learning.
The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.
HR Job Duties and Responsibilities
HR Alignment
- In liaison with the Director Human Resources, develop HR plans that support the needs of AGRA;
- Ensure HR alignment to the labour laws across the various countries in which AGRA operates;
- Provide expert advice to inform business planning from a HR perspective;
- Ensure alignment and execution of operational HR deliverables;
Recruitment Selection and Placement
- In liaison with the Director Human Resources, develop a robust talent acquisition strategy that covers modern and workable recruitment, selection and placement activities that will ensure AGRA acquires best talent fit at all times;
- Work with internal teams and hiring managers to facilitate and guide their recruitment efforts;
- Identify and source appropriate talent for current open roles within the organization;
- Identify future talent needs and proactively recruit and source; develop talent pool and repository for current and future AGRA needs;
- Manage the recruitment process and life-cycle, including initial assessments, interviews, and offers;
- Participate in employment events, such as career fairs, presentations etc.
- Develop relationships with third party recruitment agencies and staffing firms and manage the procurement and measurement process;
- Facilitate talent acquisition needs and the workforce planning process for AGRA and assist with the development of and monitor the spending of AGRA’s talent acquisition budget;
Learning and Development
- Oversee the establishment of an in-house employee training system that addresses the organizations training needs including training needs assessment, new employee orientation or on-boarding, management development, the measurement of training impact, and training transfer;
- Support managers with the selection and contracting of external training programs and consultants;
- Collaborate with leaders to develop and execute an incorporated approach to development, learning and talent management;
- Provide counsel and leadership to the AGRA Senior Leadership team to develop training programs that align with organizations strategy;
- Working with line managers and staff to identify development needs, performing gap analysis, designing and leading programs that build people management and leadership skills and capabilities;
- Provides necessary education and materials to managers and employees including workshops, manuals, employee handbooks, and standardized reports;
- Assist with the development of and monitor the spending of the corporate training budget.
- Maintain employee training records.
Performance Management
- Work with Line Managers to ensure the performance management cycle including goal setting, performance reviews and the performance improvement process are well established and well adhered to;
- Working with line managers and staff, drive the implementation of the performance management system that includes performance development plans (PDPs) and employee development programs;
Leadership Development & Succession Planning
- Coordinate the design and development of innovative and highly effective talent management programs and processes to improve the depth and diverseness of AGRA’s leadership talent, assuring the appropriate connection of proposal and delivery methods, education and development programs;
- Provide proficient consultation on all phases of talent management such as succession management, assessment, talent pipelines, selection processes etc.
- Support succession planning activities through discussions with line management, analysis of talent management activities for named successors, and review of succession pool;
- Ensure all technical roles have adequate succession planning to support continuity within AGRA at all times;
- Oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of leadership programs for AGRA’s executive staff.
Qualifications for the HR Job
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Public Administration, Business Administration or equivalent degree from a recognized University/Institution;
- MBA (Human Resource Management) – will be an added advantage;
- Must be a member of The Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) or its equivalent;
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in Human Resource Management, with 3 to 4 plus years of progressive leadership experience in a generalist HR role with deep knowledge in talent acquisition, talent management and training and leadership development;
- Should be able to work independently in a diverse environment;
- Experience in working with similar organizations or institutions will be an added advantage;
- Thoroughly familiar with and experience in working with HR regulations and reporting requirements;
- Strong understanding of and the ability to interpret and action labor laws;
- Strong ability to influence positively both upwards and downwards;
- Results and detail orientated with a very hands-on approach;
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem solving/decision making skills;
- Intelligent, motivated self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and work ethic.
An attractive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
