In January 2010, a devastating earthquake in Haiti destroyed and damaged more than 200,000 homes leaving 1.5 million people homeless. In a country already struggling, this tragedy hit hard. Since the earthquake a complex story of survival, perseverance and renewal has unfolded. Habitat for Humanity Haiti (HFHH) has had the privilege of being a part of the rebuilding strategy and the work and need continues. With projects in the urban area of Port-au-Prince and beyond, HFHH is intervening to help in a way that provides holistic community development through infrastructure projects, repairs, retrofits and livelihood training. Over 70% of the population lives on less than $2/day and over 60% remain unemployed. Habitat's efforts are seeking to meet some of the deepest needs in the Haitian community.

 

Habitat for Humanity Haiti is seeking a passionate and experienced leader to fill the role of National Director who will lead the exciting and challenging work that Habitat is undertaking in Haiti.Reporting to the Area Vice President for Latin American and the Caribbean region, the National Director is responsible for managing the strategic and operational aspects of HFHH in accordance with the overall vision, mission, values and global strategic plan. While acting as a model servant leader, he or she will oversee the functions of programs, human resources, finance and resource development, ensuring high-performance in order to achieve excellence in operational and strategic goals. He or she will demonstrate an unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation.

This position will be based at our national office in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, travelling up to 50%.

 AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Leadership & Management

Demonstrate and articulate the love and teachings of Jesus Christ and ensure that Habitat’s core values permeate the organization

Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation and learning, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems

Ensure policy compliance, accountability and effective working relationships between HFHH and the Latin America/Caribbean regional office

Planning & Program Development

Oversee the strategic and business planning processes for program growth and sustainability

Develop and monitor the annual operational plan and budget

Ensure effective communication of program results to donors and other stakeholders

Represent the organization externally to strengthen existing relationships and generate new partnership opportunities with government agencies, international and national donors/funding agencies, implementing organizations, and community stakeholders

Human Resources

Oversee the implementation of the human resources strategy, policies, procedures and practices to ensure a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations

Recruit, develop, manage, and evaluate personnel, including staff, advisors, and volunteers

Fundraising & Communications 

Expand local and international revenue, giving particular attention to institutional funders and donors as a key source of financial support

Guarantee that internal and external reports are reliable and submitted on time

Deepen and refine all aspects of communications (from web presence to external relations) with the goal of creating a stronger brand

Risk Management

Identify, evaluate and implement measures to control the risks to the organization's people (clients, staff, management, volunteers), property, finances, and reputation/brand
REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree

8+ years of senior level management and leadership experience, including proven successful strategy development and implementation, budget management, and personnel management

Demonstrated track record of effectively leading the growth of a performance- and outcomes-based organization

5+ years of experience working in or with Haiti

Fluency in French and/or Creole

Fluency in English

Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal skills

Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures

Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and brings innovative approaches to business planning

Preferred: advanced degree in a related field, ideally an MBA

Preferred: Spanish language skills

Preferred: Experience in community development, low-income housing, and non-profit organizations

First priority will be given to local candidates
