Job description

 Duties and Responsibilities of the CEO:

The CEO will develop and deliver the strategy and vision of The Company by providing the requisite leadership and by building the culture necessary for the provision of its services. The CEO will be mainly responsible for the following:

 

Reporting:

  • Supervises preparation of any and all required public reporting and disclosure.
  • Along with the CFO, may attest to the accuracy of public reporting and disclosure, if required by law or regulation.
  • Assisted by the Company Secretary, responsible for the quality and quantity of information provided to the Board of Directors.
  • Attends Board meetings and Shareholder Meetings.
  • Provides summary statistics on the company performance to Board at least quarterly.
  • Provides necessary information as requested by the Board.
  • Ensures that confidential and inside information is properly protected.
  • Facilitates reporting by subordinates where appropriate to the Board and its Committees (i.e., Head of Internal Audit to the Audit Committee and Head of Risk Management to the Risk Oversight Committee).
  • Participates in Board evaluations.
  • Ensures proper and timely disclosure of information to external parties (i.e., regulators and other relevant stakeholders) to protect the company’s reputation and interests.
  • Ensures the relationship with the regulator and other key stakeholders is sound and strong.

 

 Policy and Implementation:

  • Responsible for the overall implementation of the direction, the strategy and the management of the company.
  • Plans, organizes and directs the overall activities of the company in the pursuit of established goals and objectives.
  • Provides leadership and accountability in the development of corporate direction, goals and objectives.
  • Oversees the formulation and successful implementation of long-term strategic vision, plans, institutional goals, corporate-wide policies, standards and controls.
  • Maintains the company’s edge as a dynamic and pro-poor institution.
  • Develops and delivers on clear strategy to ensure the profitability of the company based upon agreed timelines along with the buy-in and the cooperation of all shareholders and team members.
  • Responsible for ensuring the consistent application of policies at all levels throughout the company.
  • Manages the execution of the company’s strategy and operations.
  • Considers interests of the company’s key stakeholders in formulating the policies of the company.

 

Managing the Company’s Human Resources:

  • Directs and controls the operations of the company through its established management structure.
  • Provides ongoing oversight to the Human Resource.
  • Develops and implements sound and effective HR policies.
  • Selects and recommends the appointment of key senior managers.
  • Continuously evaluates and monitors the effectiveness of existing senior managers.
  • Ensures the development of second-tier management.
  • Provides advice and counsel to other officers, managers and employees, and promotes individual and unit proficiency.
  • Formulates effective plan of organization (Terms of References, Spans of Control, etc.).
  • Continually monitors effectiveness of existing organizational structure and determines appropriate changes.
  • Ensures that proper staff is hired, trained, rewarded and retained.
  • Ensures the company has a strong, reliable, and honest workforce founded on the mission, vision, and core values of the company.

 

Managing the Company’s Operations:

  • Develop the annual business plan and submit to the Board for approval.
  • Develops and implements a strong business model for ensuring the high-quality growth of both assets and liabilities.
  • Develops a strategy for alternative delivery channels and formulates adequate operational policies and procedures.
  • Monitors ongoing performance and operation of the company to ensure compliance with established budget and strategic goals, policies and standards.
  • Ensures quality and profitability of company’s loan and deposit portfolio with a clear focus on achieving and building a small/low income depositor base.
  • Oversees the execution of marketing strategies and related promotional activities.
  • Provides strategic and ongoing oversight to ensure the highest standards of institutional and credit risk management, periodic risk assessment and the timely realization of growth targets.
  • Develops and delivers on a customer-focused culture and establishes high standards of customer care within the company.
  • Builds company’s reputation and brand for thought leadership on compliance, finance and risk management.
  • Oversees the design, development, and deployment of a complete business solution deploying the best practices in the industry in the light of the growing needs of the company.

 

Internal Controls: 

  • Ensures that internal control and risk management systems are in place and function properly.
  • Ensures establishment, maintenance and development of systems, procedures and facilities necessary to sustain efficient company operations.
  • Ensures adequacy of human resource, management information, and control systems.
  • Ensures corporate adherence to applicable domestic and international laws.
  • Develops and implements a culture of fairness, accountability and transparency across the company.
  • Responsible for ensuring that organization operates in a safe, sound, ethical and socially responsible manner.

 

Others:

  • Monitors ongoing performance and operation of the company to ensure compliance with established budget and strategic goals, policies and standards.
  • Oversees the execution of marketing strategies and related promotional activities.
  • Represents and acts on behalf of the company in his/her capacity as the chief executive officer of company.
  • Promotes the ongoing interest of the company whenever and wherever possible and develops relationships with local professionals and businesses.
  • Manages long-term relationships with key stakeholders; continuously identifies new partners for funding and shareholding; and strengthens relationships with current partners and shareholders.+

 

General Knowledge and Professional Skills

  1. Strong leadership and analytical skills.
  2. Senior-level experiences (Afford House Development Funding experience is highly desired) with good history of accomplishment.
  3. Good knowledge of law, regulation and best practices of industry.
  4. At least 10 years of experience and expertise in the housing construction (or closely related) business.
  5. with a particular focus on strategic management, high level decision making, understanding of liabilities and assets, knowledge of different market segments and business models, and a strong understanding of business development and growth.
  6. Experience in financial planning and strategic management, as well as excellent management, planning, decision-making, knowledge of different market segments and business models, business development and interpersonal skills.
  7. Basic knowledge on computing skills.
  8. Affordable house development experience in Sub-Sahara Region
  9. At least a bachelor’s degree, and preferably an advanced degree, from a reputable university, majoring/focusing in a relevant field of study (eg management, finance, accounting, housing construction).
